Yamada Heiando, a venerable lacquerware artisan established in 1919, has served the Japanese Imperial Household since the Taisho era. Their exquisite lacquerware, including crest-adorned plates and tea sets, has earned royal favor. As an "Imperial Household Agency Purveyor," their creations are also featured in Japanese embassies worldwide.
Now, this esteemed brand is teaming up with the mega-popular Pokémon IP! To celebrate the current "Year of the Horse," they're dropping a stunning makie lacquer bowl featuring none other than Ponyta. This "Ponyta Zodiac Lacquer Bowl" blends the zodiac theme with Yamada Heiando's signature craftsmanship, creating a must-have collectible for Pokémon fans. It's available for order now on their official online store.
These "Pokémon Zodiac Bowls" showcase the traditional "makie" technique, where Pokémon designs are meticulously applied onto natural wood bowls coated with lacquer. Makie is an incredibly sophisticated artisan craft, perfected over hundreds of years. It involves using the adhesive properties of lacquer to fix silver or gold powder onto the lacquerware, creating a distinctive, elegant golden sheen.
They've previously released bowls featuring fan favorites like Pikachu, Torchic, Dragonite, Arbok, and Swinub, which garnered significant buzz and praise.
For the Year of the Horse, they're not only launching the brand-new Ponyta design but also bringing back previous editions. This is a fantastic chance for anyone who missed out before to finally snag one!
The Pokémon illustrations on the bowls boast a soft, warm aesthetic, each hand-painted using traditional techniques by lacquerware artisans with decades of experience. Ponyta's design specifically symbolizes "healthy growth and the freedom to gallop through the world." It depicts Ponyta chasing its parents, picking up speed as it runs – a truly heartwarming and meaningful image.
Crafted from natural wood, each lacquer bowl offers excellent insulation, keeping the exterior cool even with hot food inside – making it super safe for kids. The high-footed design prevents tipping, offering both practicality and stability, making it an ideal full-moon gift for newborns. Plus, you can even customize it with a makie-engraved name for a truly unique keepsake!
Each purchase includes a small, natural wooden spoon for infants and an instruction manual.
You can also add an optional "Makie Name Engraving" service (up to 6 characters) to personalize your bowl.
Currently, there are six "Pokémon Zodiac Bowl" designs available, but only the new Ponyta model is on sale right now. If you're eyeing other designs, you can sign up for a "restock notification" to get an email alert when they become available again.
