Since last October, the official *Mobile Suit Gundam* franchise has been running the massive "Global Gundam General Election 2025," calling on fans from every corner of the world to vote for their all-time favorite mobile suit.
After revealing the top 20 mid-poll, the final results were officially dropped today (March 31)! In a stunning show of force, the ν Gundam from *Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack* swept the top spot on three major lists: Global, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong). With over 1.33 million votes cast, this marks the first-ever large-scale international popularity poll in Gundam history.
The global poll aimed to definitively name the fan-favorite "Gundam" from the franchise's long and storied history. Voting ran from October 9, 2025, to December 25, 2025, with the final results slated for a Spring 2026 announcement. The official tally includes a main global ranking and several regional charts, with brand-new illustrations commissioned to celebrate each list's champion.
Global Top 10:
1st Place: ν Gundam (*Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack*)
2nd Place: Wing Gundam Zero (EW) (*New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz*)
3rd Place: Zeta Gundam (*Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam*)
4th Place: Freedom Gundam (*Mobile Suit Gundam SEED*)
5th Place: Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam (*Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM*)
6th Place: ∀ Gundam (*Turn A Gundam*)
7th Place: Gundam F91 (*Mobile Suit Gundam F91*)
8th Place: Strike Rouge (*Mobile Suit Gundam SEED*)
9th Place: Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex (*Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans*)
10th Place: Gundam Aerial (*Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury*)
The Japan Top 10 was largely in line with the global results, but with a few interesting twists:
Nu Gundam still held its throne at number one, Strike Rouge jumped to 5th place, and the "Red Gundam" from *GQuuuuuuX* managed to snag the 9th spot.
However, the regional breakdowns revealed just how much fan tastes vary across the globe.
It's clear that different regions have very different favorites:
English-speaking Regions: Wing Gundam Zero (EW)
Simplified Chinese-speaking Regions: Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam
Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong): ν Gundam
Traditional Chinese (Taiwan): Wing Gundam Zero (EW)
Thai-speaking Regions: Strike Rouge
French-speaking Regions: Gundam Aerial
Italian-speaking Regions: Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex
Spanish-speaking Regions: Gundam F91
Korean-speaking Regions: Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam
The organizers also had some fun, handing out a few special awards:
"RX-78 Award": Shining Gundam at #78 (A nod to the original)
"Mafty Award": Gundam AGE-2 Dark Hound at #105 (Referencing the *Hathaway's Flash* era)
"47th Anniversary Award": Gundam Ground Type at #47 (Celebrating the series' 47th anniversary)
"Neo Holland Award": Nether Gundam at #25 (The meme king takes the stage)
Beyond the rankings, seven brand-new illustrations featuring the champions from each language region were also released. The sheer scale of this event was incredible, leaving fans to wonder if the results might inspire some new projects from the franchise.
