After ending her nine-year hiatus last year with the hit Netflix action-comedy "Back in Action," Cameron Diaz is set to continue her focus on the genre she knows best. Diaz's next starring role will be in the sequel to "Troop Beverly Hills," currently in development at TriStar Pictures, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures. She will also serve as a co-producer on the project.

The original "Troop Beverly Hills" was a 1989 comedy centered on a Wilderness Girls troop. Starring Golden Globe winner Shelley Long, the film followed Phyllis Nefler, a Beverly Hills socialite who, amidst her divorce, decides to become the leader of her daughter's Wilderness Girls troop to bond with her. The other troops, however, look down on Phyllis's unconventional approach. After a clash with a rival troop leader, Phyllis faces the threat of her troop being disbanded, with their only chance to survive being to prove their outdoor survival skills at the annual Wilderness Jamboree.
The sequel is confirmed to be written and directed by actress-turned-filmmaker Clea DuVall, known for "Happiest Season." A release date has not yet been announced.
