Two days ago, over 1,000 Hollywood professionals, both in front of and behind the camera, signed an open letter to protest Paramount Global's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. As of now, the number of signatories has surged to over 2,400, with new additions including Marvel heroes Florence Pugh, known as the "second Black Widow" (Yelena Belova), and Pedro Pascal, the new "Mr. Fantastic" (Reed Richards).

However, not everyone in the industry opposes the potential merger. James Cameron, the acclaimed director of "Avatar," who previously publicly supported Skydance Media's bid for Paramount and opposed Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, remains unwavering in his stance despite the widespread industry protest.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Cameron stated, "I know it's controversial, but I support this acquisition. I know David (Ellison, CEO of Skydance Media) quite well, and I know he truly loves movies. He's a natural storyteller, and his mindset is almost like an old-school entrepreneurial producer who loves telling stories and is passionate about creating dazzling visual spectacles. He's the best person to lead a major film company, and now it looks like he's about to lead two major film companies at once, and I don't mind that at all."

Cameron and David Ellison (pictured left) have a history of collaboration. Ellison's Skydance Media previously co-produced "Terminator: Dark Fate," which Cameron produced. Furthermore, Cameron's latest directorial work, "Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft - The Tour (Live in 3D)," set to be released next month, is also being distributed by Paramount Pictures, underscoring their established working relationship.
