Set in the near future, "The Dog Stars" depicts a world where an unnamed pandemic has ravaged American society. Civilian pilot Hig, his dog, and the gruff former Marine Bangley live a solitary existence at an abandoned Colorado Air Force base. Despite their clashing personalities, they rely on each other to fend off roaming intruders. Hope ignites for Hig when his 1956 Cessna's radio picks up a random signal, sparking a desire to leave their strictly controlled borders for a better life. Hig decides to risk everything, following the faint message beyond the frontier in search of new hope. Elordi portrays Hig, Brolin plays Bangley, while Qualley and Pearce appear as a father-daughter duo residing on a ranch.
