The sci-fi blockbuster "Project Hail Mary," which has already grossed $570 million worldwide, has captivated audiences since its release. The rock-like alien "Loki" has particularly won over fans, who have been deeply moved by his profound friendship with protagonist Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling. Despite the character not being portrayed by a live actor on screen, Loki's vibrant interactions with Gosling are as emotionally resonant as any human performance. This exceptional work could potentially earn the person behind Loki's on-screen presence an acting award, rather than a technical one.

This morning, Variety exclusively reported that Amazon and MGM are already strategizing to launch an awards campaign for James Ortiz, the puppeteer responsible for bringing the Loki character to life on set. Ortiz will be campaigned for various Best Supporting Actor categories in next year's awards season.
According to Variety's investigation, Ortiz is eligible for nominations from several major awards bodies, including the Academy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Critics Choice Awards, and the British Academy Film Awards. However, he is not eligible for the Golden Globes. In an interview with Variety, Ortiz noted that while many categorize puppetry as a technical achievement, he approaches his work by considering the character's intentions and inner feelings, much like a traditional actor.
