Deadline exclusively reported today that "Oldboy" director Park Chan-wook's fourth Hollywood project, "The Brigands of Rattlecreek," is actively in development, with its main cast unveiled earlier today. This marks Park's latest English-language endeavor, following "Stoker," "The Little Drummer Girl," and "The Sympathizer."
The film has currently assembled a star-studded cast including Matthew McConaughey, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler, and Tang Wei, who previously worked with Park Chan-wook on "Decision to Leave." The production budget is currently estimated at $60 million.

"The Brigands of Rattlecreek" is based on a script written over two decades ago by S. Craig Zahler, director of "Brawl in Cell Block 99." Park Chan-wook has reportedly harbored a desire to direct this project for over a decade, and it is only now making significant progress. With the development plan officially underway, Park Chan-wook has also personally rewritten the latest draft of the screenplay.
The film tells the story of a sheriff and a doctor who team up to seek revenge on a group of bandits who, under the cover of a torrential downpour, robbed and terrorized the residents of a small town. The narrative will explore themes common in Park Chan-wook's filmography: revenge, retribution, the consequences of violence, and the power of memory and family. However, this time the story unfolds against the backdrop of the American West.
