Director David Ayer ("Suicide Squad") and action star Jason Statham (pictured right, below) have found a successful rhythm in recent years, delivering back-to-back box office hits with mid-budget action films like "The Tax Collector" and "The Beekeeper." Their unexpected success has made them a reliable box office duo, and they are clearly eager to continue this streak, as their third collaborative project is already in development.

According to a report from Deadline today, Ayer is set to direct Statham in the upcoming action film "John Doe." Statham will star as the titular "John Doe," a man with no memory, no past, and no name, yet he cannot forget one face: Eliza. As fragments of his identity slowly return, he discovers he was trained for a mission that is still in motion, and the very people who sent him are now hunting him down. With enemies closing in, John Doe must choose between finishing what he started or protecting the one thing that makes him feel human: love.
The screenplay for "John Doe" was penned by Zak Penn, known for his work on blockbusters such as "The Avengers" and "Ready Player One." A release date has not yet been announced.
