The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Anime Hits 10 Years! Creator Shuichi Aso Jokes About Doing "Nothing" But Hints at a Sequel

Shuichi Aso's manga, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., is celebrating its 10th anime anniversary this year! This hilarious series, blending psychic powers with comedic antics, has maintained strong popularity even after the manga concluded in 2018.

To mark the occasion, the official 10th-anniversary website has launched several special projects, celebrating the series' enduring appeal. Naturally, creator Shuichi Aso also chimed in on the 10th anniversary, expressing his gratitude and even teasing the possibility of a sequel.

Aso commented:

"Oh, I watch Saiki K.!" I hear that all the time. About 95% of people probably discovered "Saiki K." through the anime. And now, that anime is hitting its 10th anniversary! It's been seven years since the manga ended, and thanks to all your support, I'm still eating well! Seriously, thank you! (laughs)

...But speaking of which, the manga side hasn't really done anything for its 10th anniversary... What gives? If we keep this up, the anime's going to steal all the thunder. Maybe the manga side should launch some grand fireworks too? How about we go big?As for a sequel... we can't lose out!

...Huh? There's really no slot? Come on, figure something out! Just give me 2-3 pages, please...!

While his words were playful, it's clear Shuichi Aso is keen on creating a sequel. Now 40, he isn't currently serializing any manga and mostly shares amusing parenting stories on X (formerly Twitter).

However, regarding the anime reaching this milestone, he also posted on X, expressing that after 10 years, to still be celebrated like this feels like the treatment a super popular series gets. "Honestly, I don't really feel like it's all my own doing anymore; it almost feels like I'm talking about someone else's work. But still—happy 10th anniversary! Thank you for taking this series to places the manga never could have reached. Truly, thank you."

The official 10th-anniversary website is now live, featuring an anime episode popularity poll, with promises of more activities to come. But for fans of "The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.," the prospect of a sequel or even a short, concentrated serialization would undoubtedly be the most exciting news.
