Last September, reports surfaced that Tom Cruise was likely to begin filming the long-awaited sequel to "Edge of Tomorrow" in the second half of this year. Now, other media outlets are corroborating that news. Renowned entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman recently reported on his Patreon that "Edge of Tomorrow 2" is actively moving forward and is expected to commence principal photography this fall, aligning with last year's rumors.

While the script for "Edge of Tomorrow 2" has long been in development and Emily Blunt has consistently expressed interest in returning, the project's prolonged delay has primarily stemmed from Tom Cruise's notoriously packed schedule. However, with the "Mission: Impossible" franchise currently in a dormant phase and his ambitious deep-sea diving epic "Deeper" reportedly shelved due to escalating costs, Cruise has no other films slated to begin production this year, providing a clear window to focus on "Edge of Tomorrow 2."

However, Cruise has a new film, "Digger," set for release this fall, which is widely anticipated to be a strong contender for the upcoming awards season. This could mean his promotional commitments would extend from this fall through next year's Academy Awards ceremony, raising questions about potential scheduling conflicts with "Edge of Tomorrow 2" production. The extent of any conflict remains unknown.
