Game director Hideki Kamiya, celebrated for iconic titles like "Bayonetta" and "Okami," recently made headlines by returning to Clover Studio after over a decade at PlatinumGames, where he continues to helm an "Okami" sequel.
But Kamiya recently blew his top on X (formerly Twitter) after an overseas user commented on PlatinumGames' official account, boldly declaring "Bayonetta" an LGBT symbol and demanding Kamiya's return to direct future installments. The direct tag to Kamiya's account clearly struck a nerve, igniting a fiery online debate.

So, what sparked this whole kerfuffle? A few days prior, on April 30th, PlatinumGames posted for "International Dance Day," featuring the dance-heavy "Bayonetta" to encourage everyone to groove and enjoy life.
That's when the aforementioned overseas user jumped into the comments, stating that "Bayonetta" is a representative work for the LGBT community, claiming they adore its intense angel and demon themes. They then slammed "Bayonetta 3" as a massive disappointment, insisting Kamiya should be brought back to create something as amazing as the first two games.

This comment quickly drew fire from other netizens, who questioned when "Bayonetta" became an LGBT symbol. Many pointed to official anniversary artwork depicting Bayonetta married to Luka and raising a child, asking how anyone could still claim it as an LGBT title.

After being directly tagged, Kamiya wasted no time, quote-tweeting the comment with a blunt, "Go away, idiot..." While Kamiya is famously outspoken, using such strong language on social media is considered highly offensive in Japanese culture, making his reaction particularly severe.
While the overseas account in question appears to have minimal social media activity beyond a few comments on PlatinumGames' posts, directly tagging Kamiya and eliciting such a furious response certainly invited the backlash. Of course, this single user doesn't represent the entire LGBT community, but misusing such a label only serves to create discomfort.
