Christopher Nolan's upcoming Greek epic "The Odyssey" is set to hit theaters in just over two months, yet some cast roles have remained under wraps. However, a recent interview with Nolan in TIME magazine has finally confirmed a long-standing casting rumor: "Black Panther" star Lupita Nyong'o (pictured left) will indeed portray Helen.
Nyong'o was previously confirmed only as Clytemnestra, Agamemnon's wife, but her role now expands to include Helen. This makes sense, as Clytemnestra is Helen's twin sister, making it unsurprising for one actress to play both roles. However, Helen has historically been depicted as white in most film and television adaptations, a casting choice that is sure to spark debate, and indeed, had already drawn ridicule from many online during the rumor phase.

In addition to Nyong'o, the star-studded cast features Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Odysseus' son Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Odysseus' wife Penelope, Zendaya as Athena, Benny Safdie as King Agamemnon of Mycenae, Jon Bernthal as King Menelaus of Sparta, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, and Charlize Theron as the sea nymph Calypso.

Further supporting roles include Mia Goth as the palace handmaiden Melantho, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, with Samantha Morton, Logan Marshall-Green, Corey Hawkins, and Elliot Page in undisclosed roles. "The Odyssey" is slated for a global release on July 17th, a date that falls within Nolan's preferred summer blockbuster window — the third week of July.
