Before his passing in 2017, "Godfather of the Zombie Film" George A. Romero had been developing "Twilight of the Dead," the final chapter in his iconic "Night of the Living Dead" series. Following Romero's death, his estate continued to push the project forward, even attaching "zombie-slaying specialist" Milla Jovovich to star in 2024. However, after two years in development, the lead actress has now been recast.

Deadline exclusively reported earlier that Kate Beckinsale, another actress known for her action film roles, has replaced Jovovich in the lead. The directorial reins have also shifted, with Brad Anderson, known for "The Machinist," stepping aside for the Paz Brothers, who helmed "The Golem."

"Twilight of the Dead" is set on a ravaged Earth, where humanity's last survivors are caught between warring human factions and an evolving undead population, all struggling for survival. While currently positioned as the final installment, producers have previously indicated that a successful box office performance could pave the way for a new series extension.
