It's Official: April 7th Is Now "Gundam Day"!

Big news for Gundam fans! At yesterday's (May 15) "GUNDAM CONFERENCE SPRING 2026" event, a ton of fresh updates were dropped, including plans leading up to the franchise's epic 50th anniversary in 2029.

Among the announcements was a super cool detail: as part of the "Gundam 50th Anniversary Project," April 7th has been officially designated as "Gundam Day"! And yes, it's already been formally recognized and registered by the Japan Anniversary Association.

So, why April 7th for "Gundam Day"? It's a tribute to the original "Mobile Suit Gundam" anime, which first aired on April 7, 1979. That date kicked off an IP legacy spanning over four decades, with more than 90 titles released to date. Beyond the anime itself, the franchise has exploded into models, games, entertainment facilities, music, and so much more, continuing its massive growth thanks to a global fanbase.

With "Gundam Day" now officially certified by the Japan Anniversary Association, the creators have confirmed that various commemorative projects and events are planned for April 7th every year going forward.

While "Gundam Day" might seem largely symbolic, the official word is that there will be special projects and activities on that date. So, get ready to mark your calendars – we can't wait to see what surprises next year's "Gundam Day" brings!
