IO Interactive's upcoming James Bond game, "007 First Light," recently unveiled a special cameo, confirming that TikTok sensation Khaby Lame will appear in the game, encountering Bond in a Vietnam-set scene. However, this casting choice and its early reveal have left some series fans puzzled.
Khaby Lame rose to fame with his deadpan expression and signature shrug, often mocking overly complicated solutions to simple problems in his short videos. A clip released by IO Interactive shows Bond asking Lame for directions in front of a signpost. Lame, without speaking, simply performs his iconic shrug, pointing to the clearly marked sign, integrating his social media persona into the game's narrative.
The developers stated, "You'll encounter a familiar face in Vietnam. Khaby Lame joins the cast of '007 First Light' as James Bond embarks on a globe-trotting adventure, striving to earn his 007 designation." The team also revealed they collaborated with Lame for character scanning and designed his costume for this reimagined origin story.
However, some players questioned why the developers would proactively reveal a cameo that could have been a surprise closer to launch. Game industry analyst Daniel Ahmad suggested that this move might be an attempt by the developers to reach a broader social media audience beyond traditional Bond fans.
