Get ready, samurai! Capcom just dropped a bombshell at the latest PlayStation State of Play, officially announcing that the highly anticipated sword-action title, "Onimusha: Way of the Sword," will launch on PS5 on September 25, 2026! They also unveiled a brand-new trailer and dished out some juicy details on the combat system. Even better? A playable demo is available for download starting today, letting players dive headfirst into the early stages of Miyamoto Musashi's quest for power and knowledge.
"Onimusha: Way of the Sword" is a fresh new entry in the legendary series, set in early Edo-period Kyoto. The story follows Miyamoto Musashi as he gains Oni power and confronts the monstrous Genma running rampant through the ancient capital. The latest trailer gave us a glimpse of Mt. Oe, a renowned Kyoto landmark, which will serve as a crucial battleground. This mountain, steeped in nature, history, and legend, has been overrun by the colossal Genma, Shuten Doji, who uses it as a base for his brutal atrocities.

The demo, launching today, offers about 30 minutes of the game's opening narrative. Players will journey through the Kiyomizu-dera stage, clash with rival Sasaki Kojiro, and get a hands-on feel for core combat mechanics like blocking, parrying, critical strikes, Onimusha transformation, and soul absorption. While your demo progress won't carry over to the full game, players with a demo save file will snag a special "Shumei" talisman in the final release!
"Onimusha: Way of the Sword" is now available for pre-order on the PlayStation Store.
