The highly anticipated summer blockbuster "The Odyssey" officially announced its US rating today, confirming an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association. While studios typically worry that an R-rating might limit audience turnout, Universal Pictures has no such concerns for a Christopher Nolan-directed film. Nolan's box office appeal is undeniable; his previous R-rated feature, "Oppenheimer," still grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide, proving impervious to rating restrictions.
The R-rating for "The Odyssey" also makes it the most expensive R-rated film in history to date, with a production budget of approximately $250 million, making it the priciest R-rated movie ever.

In other news, US theaters, which have recently embraced uniquely shaped popcorn buckets, have unveiled "The Odyssey"'s exclusive themed popcorn bucket. Its design is strikingly an IMAX camera. This design, of course, holds significant commemorative value, as "The Odyssey" is the first film in history to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras.
From another perspective, this highlights the incredibly close connection between Nolan, a long-time advocate for IMAX releases and practically a brand ambassador for the format, and IMAX itself. Their bond is so strong that his film would eventually inspire an IMAX camera-shaped popcorn bucket for theaters.
