Illustrator neco's "Heavily Armed High School Girls" Project Scores TV Anime Adaptation!

First launched in 2014 as an illustration series by artist neco, "Heavily Armed High School Girls" has since exploded in popularity, spawning a slew of models and figures that have captivated fans both in Japan and globally.

Today (June 5), the official announcement dropped: the series is getting a full-blown TV anime adaptation! This ambitious project brings together a dream team of talented creators ready to breathe new life into neco's unique world. To celebrate, neco herself has drawn a special commemorative key visual, and the world's fastest public PV has also been unleashed. While we're still waiting for an air date, the hype is already real!

"Heavily Armed High School Girls" is the brainchild of illustrator neco (@neco_person), who began publishing the series in 2014. neco masterfully fuses high school girls with futuristic weaponry, creating a striking contrast between student uniforms and intricate machinery. Her distinctive brushwork and color palette bring these mechanical designs to life with incredible detail.

The series quickly gained a massive following, leading to numerous model kits and figures that have become collector's items worldwide. Its signature blend of seemingly delicate, vulnerable female characters and sharply designed, heavy mecha creates a truly one-of-a-kind universe.

Helming the project as director is Masaki Tachibana, known for his work on popular titles like "Star Wars: Visions" and "Princess Principal." The series composition will be handled by Natsuko Takahashi, whose credits include "Yuyushiki" and "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0." The anime is a joint production by Good Smile Film and Good Smile Company.

A Message from Original Creator neco:

As an illustrator, there's no greater joy than seeing my own work adapted into an anime. Because of that, I've poured my heart and soul into this project, doing everything I can. I might have caused the production team a bit of trouble along the way, but it's thanks to the help of so many people that we can finally make this announcement today.

"Heavily Armed High School Girls" started as a single illustration, then grew into models and figures, and now, finally, an anime. I hope everyone looks forward to the day it officially airs!

A Message from Director Masaki Tachibana:

During the anime production, we had many discussions with the original creator, neco, about the character designs. We often found ourselves asking, "What kind of personality would this character have?" and then developed the script from there.

Once the characters were officially voiced and given life, both neco-sensei and I were often surprised, exclaiming, "So this is who this child really is!" I hope everyone looks forward to the exciting performances of Ichi and her friends.

A Message from Series Composer Natsuko Takahashi:

The first time I saw neco's "Heavily Armed High School Girls," I was instantly captivated. They carry not just physical heavy armaments, but also a deeper weight and meaning. Yet, at the same time, they retain the unique youth and innocence of high school girls.

Being able to repeatedly discuss the content with Director Tachibana, neco-sensei, and the many staff members has truly enriched the work's charm. The creative ideas and suggestions from the production team often made me exclaim, "You can do that?!" I hope everyone gets to see these girls, burdened with heavy gear, yet still flashing light smiles.
