At Summer Game Fest 2026, one of the biggest global gaming showcases held on June 6, CAPCOM dropped a massive announcement: Monster Hunter Wilds is getting a huge expansion titled "Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance," set to launch in 2027! A brand-new trailer was also unveiled.
Alongside the reveal, CAPCOM confirmed a change in leadership for the expansion. Yuya Tokuda, who directed the original Monster Hunter Wilds, is passing the torch to Takuro Hiraoka, a veteran series planner, who will now take the helm as director for "Ascendance."
From the initial intel, "Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance" is packing a ton of new content. Expect a continuation of the main story, fresh new fields to explore, terrifying new monsters to hunt, and revamped action mechanics. Plus, the highly anticipated "Master Rank" difficulty is making its debut. All the essential expansion goodies are packed in, ready to expand the already epic world of Monster Hunter Wilds even further.
But here's one of the biggest highlights: Elder Dragons, creatures whose mere existence can unleash cataclysmic environmental devastation, are set to play an absolutely pivotal role in the story.
The newly released trailer gave us a glimpse of a mysterious new map featuring floating ruins in the sky. This uncharted territory is home to never-before-seen monsters, and hunters' actions have evolved even further, promising more spectacular and immersive combat. The trailer also heavily hints at a colossal threat tied to the Elder Dragons, with a new story arc unfolding around this immense power.

Hiraoka has contributed to numerous titles in the series in various production roles, so it'll be interesting to see what fresh perspectives he brings to "Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance."
"Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance" is slated for release sometime in 2027, so keep an eye out for more official announcements down the line!
