Atsushi Tamura Uses AI to Develop Sengoku Game "Hideyoshi's Melancholy," Aims for "Toyotomi Regime Extension Game," Wants to Pitch to Koei Tecmo

Atsushi Tamura, the comedian and host who shot to fame on the long-running variety show "Quiz! Atsushi & The World" (and formerly of the comedy duo London Boots Ichigo Nigo), announced on X on June 26th that he's diving into game development using AI technology.

He posted, "Inspired by 'Nobunaga's Ambition,' I'm making a game called 'Hideyoshi's Melancholy'... but I'm stuck. If I ever finish it, I hope someone can help me test it." This official reveal of his in-development title immediately grabbed the attention of netizens and Sengoku history buffs alike.

Tamura reiterated his inspiration: "Inspired by 'Nobunaga's Ambition,' I'm making a game called 'Hideyoshi's Melancholy'... but I'm stuck. If I ever finish it, I hope someone can help me test it." His ultimate goal? To create a history-altering simulation game where the Toyotomi regime endures.

As seen in the video attached to his post, "Hideyoshi's Melancholy" is a historical simulation game starring Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the unifier of Japan during the Sengoku period. But here's the twist: unlike most Sengoku games where you start as a daimyo aiming for unification, "Hideyoshi's Melancholy" kicks off *after* unification. The real challenge? "How to make the Toyotomi regime last."

Players step into Hideyoshi's shoes, navigating the tumultuous late Sengoku period, fraught with succession crises and internal strife, making critical choices as historical events unfold.

"There are no right answers. Every choice you make will forge a new history," Tamura stated. He aims to create a deep historical simulation where player decisions branch into countless "what-if" scenarios, letting players personally shape the Toyotomi regime's destiny.

Tamura also spilled the beans on the development of "Hideyoshi's Melancholy" during the "AI Best Friend Entertainers" segment of the variety show "Dokkiri Grand Prix," which aired on June 25th.

A long-time "Nobunaga's Ambition" fan, he decided to chase his dream of game development, spurred by recent AI advancements. But once he started, he quickly realized it wasn't as easy as it looked, hitting numerous snags. So, he's even planning to pitch directly to Koei Tecmo, the developers behind "Nobunaga's Ambition," hoping for official assistance!

For his pitch, he even crafted a promotional video and presentation materials. On the show, he chuckled nervously, looking at his meticulously prepared plan, "There's no way Koei would listen to *me*!" He seemed a bit unsure, but the other guests were universally impressed, praising the high quality of his proposal and the fresh game concept.

Currently, "Hideyoshi's Melancholy" is in the recruitment phase for beta testers. If Tamura keeps his passion burning, coupled with enthusiastic online feedback and the positive reception from the TV show, there's a real chance this could evolve into an official "Nobunaga's Ambition" collaboration or even a spin-off title down the line.

This challenge is truly "Tamura Atsushi's Ambition" in every sense of the word. While it's no easy feat for an entertainer, especially one without professional game dev experience, to tackle the gaming world, we'll definitely be keeping an eye on the progress of "Hideyoshi's Melancholy."
