Capcom's iconic Resident Evil series needs no introduction, and with the eleventh main installment, "Resident Evil 9: Requiem," dropping this February, the franchise is officially hitting its 30th-anniversary milestone this year!
But here's a fun fact: Hideki Kamiya, the legendary game director who helmed "Resident Evil 2" back in his Capcom days, recently took to X to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary. While reminiscing about the game that kicked off his illustrious career, he also threw out a hilarious plea to Capcom: "Please add a non-horror mode!" Naturally, the internet went wild.

Kamiya kicked off his post by marveling at how 30 years have flown by for Resident Evil. He reflected on how, when he was just starting in the industry, he never imagined it would balloon into such a massive project and IP, expressing excitement for its future. But then, in a classic Kamiya pivot, he dropped the bombshell: he really hopes Capcom will "add a non-horror mode" and make it happen!

Turns out, this isn't Kamiya's first rodeo with this request. Earlier this year, when "Resident Evil 9: Requiem" launched, he posted about playing it with his colleagues in the studio. The verdict? The game's terrifying moments were so intense that he declared, "They really need to make a non-horror mode..."
Of course, fans couldn't resist playfully roasting him, quipping, "Weren't YOU the one who pioneered the horror in 'Resident Evil 2' back in the day? And now you want a non-horror mode?!" Kamiya shot back, admitting he actually despises scary stuff but still wants to enjoy game stories. His plea? "Please stop scaring me with terrifying zombies! QQ"

Naturally, some fans started clamoring for him to write more stories about Leon and Claire, eager to see how their journeys would evolve.
But Kamiya's response was pure gold:
"If I wrote it, a retired Leon would be living in the countryside, spending his days fishing, foraging for wild veggies, baking bread, walking his dog, and tending his garden. He'd occasionally drive 50 kilometers to the general store, invite old comrades over for BBQ parties, help the grandma next door fix her oven, and even run a lemonade stand at local festivals... Could you *really* handle a game like that...?" This hilarious reply had netizens absolutely cracking up.

While Hideki Kamiya has long since moved on from Capcom, it's clear his love for the Resident Evil IP is still going strong. As for that "non-horror mode"... well, we're sure Capcom heard him loud and clear. Whether they'll actually make it happen is another story entirely! XD
