Speculation has been swirling recently regarding the future of the "Bourne" franchise. Late last month, acclaimed entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider first reported on his blog, The InSneider, that Zendaya was in talks with Universal Pictures to star in a new reboot. Just days later, "Jason Bourne" himself, Matt Damon, reiterated that a sixth installment, expected to star him, was also still in development. The conflicting reports left fans quite confused about whether the series would be rebooted or continued.

However, yesterday, Sneider, who initially broke the news about Zendaya's potential reboot, followed up on X with an update. He reported that, according to his latest information, Damon and Zendaya are actually set to co-star in "Bourne 6," with Zendaya's character being groomed as the new lead to inherit the franchise. This suggests the sixth film will likely follow a "veteran passing the torch to a rookie" storyline. After Damon completes his role of introducing the new lead, he would then step back, either no longer appearing in future sequels or taking on a supporting role at most.

With both Damon and Zendaya being major stars, and the "Bourne" franchise a key Universal property, this potential pairing could be a strategic move for the studio. "Bourne 6" is currently set to be directed by Edward Berger (pictured above), acclaimed for "Conclave," with Joe Barton, showrunner of the Netflix spy series "Black Doves," writing the screenplay.
