Two years ago, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Tom Cruise was developing a sequel to another of his iconic films, "Days of Thunder." Today, THR has exclusively announced the director and screenwriter attached to the project.
Jonathan Levine, known for directing "Warm Bodies," "Long Shot," and "Novocaine," is reportedly in talks to helm the sequel. Will Staples, who penned "Tom Clancy's Without Remorse," is set to write the screenplay.

While filming dates remain speculative, World of Reel suggests production could begin as early as this fall, while Discussing Film points to an early next year start.
Much like "Top Gun," which received a highly successful sequel four years ago, "Days of Thunder" was a Paramount production from Tom Cruise and the late action maestro Tony Scott. Both films were originally produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. For the upcoming sequel, Bruckheimer is returning to produce alongside Cruise.
