Bandai Namco has officially announced the new Mobile Suit Gundam series anime, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, slated for a 2027 broadcast. Alongside the announcement, the first wave of Gunpla and other related merchandise has also been revealed.

The new anime, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, is part of the next-generation Gundam initiative, "RG PROJECT," and shares a worldview with a new Gundam game also set to release in 2027. The anime's story is set approximately 100 years before the events of the game. Humanity has entered an unprecedented era of prosperity after obtaining the "Three Gospels" from an unidentified object that arrived from outside the solar system: gravity control, faster-than-light communication, and conceptual materialization technology. However, the object suddenly went rogue, activating a self-replication system and spawning highly aggressive, silicon-based lifeforms. In this new, unknown ecosystem, humanity saw what it would come to call the "Apocalypse."
After a three-month-long battle, the front lines stagnated in Earth's satellite orbit, forcing humanity to abandon the planet and retreat to the Moon and space colonies. This year was recorded as Year 1 A.A. (After Apocalypse). In the year A.A. 45, where the existence of the silicon-based Apocalypse has become the norm, a young man named Azumi Ray (CV: Takeo Otsuka) awakens on the lunar surface. A war orphan who lost his parents in an Apocalypse attack, he is destined to become the pilot of the cutting-edge experimental unit designed to fight them: the "Gundam ZERO."

Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO will be directed and have its series composition handled by the legendary Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work on classics like "Ghost in the Shell." Award-winning Japanese science fiction author Toh Enjoe is supervising the SF concepts, while the Gundam designs are being handled by Eiichi Shimizu of "ULTRAMAN" fame. Focusing on the war between humanity and these alien silicon-based lifeforms, the "RG PROJECT" promises to deliver a completely new setting and story unlike any previous Gundam series.

Multiple merchandise items featuring the protagonist's mobile suit, the Gundam ZERO, have been announced to combat the silicon-based Apocalypse. The lineup spans a rich variety of product lines, including an "HG" model kit, a "METAL ROBOT SPIRITS" die-cast action figure, a "GUNDAM UNIVERSE" action figure, and more. Each product line will showcase the sharp design penned by Eiichi Shimizu, leveraging the unique features of each series. Detailed product information will be released at a later date.
