The long-standing speculation about Ryan Gosling joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the new Ghost Rider has been a hot topic among fans and even discussed behind the scenes at Marvel for years. Gosling himself had previously expressed interest in the role and had even admitted to holding discussions with Marvel Studios, though nothing had been officially finalized. However, in the early hours today, just hours before Marvel Studios was set to hold its panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, news broke regarding the outcome of those discussions between Gosling and Marvel.

Renowned entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman first reported on his Patreon page earlier today that Gosling has officially been cast as the new Ghost Rider. This isn't a rumor, a consideration, or ongoing talks — it's a done deal. While Marvel had not yet publicly announced the news, it was widely expected that the studio would confirm the scoop during its Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, with Gosling himself potentially making a surprise appearance to greet fans.
UPDATE: Marvel has officially announced that the new "Ghost Rider" film will be helmed by "Deadpool & Wolverine" director Shawn Levy and is slated for a 2028 release. The official title logo was also unveiled (pictured above).
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also revealed during the panel that Gosling had initially approached Marvel about the role. Feige noted that Gosling is a longtime fan of the "Ghost Rider" comics and came to the studio with his own vision for adapting the character, drawing inspiration from specific comic storylines.
