Inde Navarrette, Breakout Star of "Obsession," Confirms Meeting with "X-Men" Director; Eyes Mystique Role

Following the global box office success of A24's "Obsession," which grossed over $400 million worldwide, star Inde Navarrette has rapidly emerged as one of Hollywood's most sought-after rising talents. During a recent appearance on a Variety podcast, Navarrette revealed that since the film's release, she has taken numerous industry meetings, including one with Marvel Studios and director Jake Schreier, who helmed "Thunderbolts*" and is currently developing the new "X-Men" project.

Navarrette stated that she grew up watching Fox's 2000s "X-Men" films and greatly admired Schreier's character-driven storytelling approach in "Thunderbolts*." She confessed that during their meeting, she enthusiastically expressed how much she loved his work for Marvel.

However, she also emphasized that many recent meetings are simply opportunities to connect with filmmakers she admires, not necessarily an indication of having signed onto a project. She described it as a privilege she currently holds, allowing her to directly tell creators, "I really want to work with you; I've seen this work of yours, that work, and another."

With a major upcoming Avengers film expected to reintroduce characters like Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Nightcrawler, and Mystique, Marvel is reportedly planning to reboot "X-Men" with a younger cast after "Avengers: Secret Wars." As for which role Navarrette might pursue, she offered a clear hint: "I mean, Mystique has always been really cool."
