Since its grand opening in November 2022, Ghibli Park (ジブリパーク) has become a global phenomenon, drawing Ghibli faithful from every corner of the world. As it approaches its fourth anniversary, the magic is only growing!
Now, get ready for even more enchantment! Aichi Prefecture has just dropped the bombshell: a third phase of development is officially underway! This massive expansion will introduce a brand-new "Nausicaä Area" (ナウシカエリア), diving deep into the breathtaking world of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." Imagine stepping right into the film's iconic landscapes and experiencing its unique atmosphere firsthand! While an official completion date is still under wraps, the anticipation is already building.

According to officials, this third phase of development isn't just about new attractions; it's a strategic move to draw even more visitors and supercharge local tourism. They've been doing their homework, too, conducting extensive surveys to understand how to extend visitor stays and tackle those scorching summer days.
These investigations, which included everything from foot traffic analysis and questionnaires to on-site observations, meticulously mapped out visitor movements and facility usage. The big takeaway? Adding a large indoor facility would be a game-changer, solving existing issues and enhancing the overall park experience. That's why the West Entrance Plaza – a prime spot along the main visitor route that seamlessly integrates with current attractions – was chosen as the perfect location for this exciting new area.

The current blueprint for the "Nausicaä Area" prominently features a massive indoor facility, ensuring that every visitor can dive into the magic, come rain or shine!
Of course, Aichi Prefecture isn't going it alone. They've been in close consultation with Studio Ghibli, who oversees the park's entire planning and supervision. It was Ghibli’s own visionary concepts for a "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" themed facility that ultimately solidified the overall development direction for the "Nausicaä Area."
While we might have to wait a little longer for this incredible plan to fully materialize, for every fan of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," this means a brand-new, permanent pilgrimage site at Ghibli Park. Get ready, because this is absolutely something to look forward to!
