Eon Productions, co-owners of the James Bond film rights with MGM, previously staunchly opposed proposals from Amazon (MGM's parent company) to develop Bond-related spin-off series. For instance, Amazon had once suggested to Eon a standalone series focusing on Miss Moneypenny, the secretary to Bond's superior, M. However, Barbara Broccoli, the Bond franchise producer who oversees Eon, rejected the idea outright.

Nevertheless, Eon sold full creative control of future Bond films to Amazon last year for $1 billion. This means Amazon is no longer beholden to Eon's preferences and can produce whatever content it desires. The British newspaper, the Daily Mail, recently reported that Amazon remains keen on Moneypenny and still plans to develop a spin-off series for the character, with Florence Pugh reportedly being targeted for the starring role.
The Daily Mail also noted that the series is expected to adapt "The Moneypenny Diaries" series, an official canonical spin-off from the original Bond novels. This series currently comprises a trilogy and two short stories, providing ample material for an adaptation.
