Two years ago, Warner Bros. Pictures announced a new director for "The Matrix" franchise, marking the first change in helmers for the series. The upcoming fifth installment would see "The Cabin in the Woods" director and "Marvel's Daredevil" showrunner (for its first three seasons) Drew Goddard take over writing and directing duties from The Wachowskis, who helmed the first four films. However, this doesn't mean The Wachowskis will be entirely absent from the production.

Speaking recently on KCEW's "The Business" program, Lilly Wachowski (pictured above) revealed that she and her sister would still have a small involvement in the fifth film. "Warner Bros., they want another one, they always want another one," Wachowski stated. "But for me, personally, I don't want to be in that sandbox anymore. I'm kind of done with the series. However, there might be a situation with Drew Goddard, where he doesn't want to develop it without our blessing, so it's become complicated. Perhaps we'll dip our toes in a little bit, see how we feel, and if we want to give Drew our blessing. So, that might be the direction things go, but it's not certain yet."
