Following its impressive $270 million global box office run last summer, the horror-thriller "Weapons" has long been rumored to receive a prequel. Director Zach Cregger previously hinted at another story set within the "Weapons" universe, which was later confirmed to be a prequel focusing on the fan-favorite character, Aunt Gladys. However, Cregger recently revealed that he will not be returning to write the script himself.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Cregger stated, "Actually, Zach Shields (co-writer of "Godzilla: King of the Monsters") is writing the 'Gladys' script. I developed the story outline with him, but he's currently handling the screenplay."
Warner Bros. Pictures has already slated "Gladys" for a September 8, 2028 release, but a director has yet to be announced. Cregger's return to the director's chair is highly unlikely, as he is committed to directing the sci-fi film "The Flood", which is scheduled to hit theaters on August 11, 2028. With such close release dates, the production schedules would inevitably overlap, making it impossible for Cregger to helm both projects.
