BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS collectors division in Japan has announced the latest addition to its METAL ROBOT Damashii (Ka signature) series, the "Enhanced ZZ Gundam" from "Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ," slated for an April 2027 release. This series features designs supervised by renowned mechanical designer Hajime Katoki, combining metallic paint finishes with die-cast frames.
The MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam is a transformable mobile suit developed by the AEUG, serving as the successor to the Zeta Gundam. Its most distinctive feature is its ability to combine and transform from three core fighters, making it a "monster" equipped with multiple high-output generators and powerful armaments, with few mobile suits in later generations able to rival it. However, the overly complex transformation mechanism left the ZZ Gundam structurally vulnerable, a flaw later addressed by the development of "Full Armor Parts." The "Enhanced ZZ Gundam" represents an interim form designed for conversion into the "Full Armor ZZ Gundam," featuring improved armor in various sections, an enlarged backpack, and increased generator output for significantly enhanced mobility.
The "METAL ROBOT Damashii (Ka signature) Enhanced ZZ Gundam" is a commemorative item for the 40th anniversary of "Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ." Leveraging design experience from the previous "ROBOT Damashii (Ka signature) ZZ Gundam" release, this enhanced form is realized with mostly new sculpted parts and a partial die-cast frame structure.
The overall design boasts a sharp silhouette and rich detailing faithful to the anime's original concept art. It also inherits the transformation and combination mechanisms from the "METAL ROBOT Damashii (Ka signature) ZZ Gundam Prototype," allowing the Core Fighter, Core Top, and Core Base to combine into MS mode and transform into "G-Fortress" mode.
In addition to newly recreated enlarged armor, backpack, and thrusters that differentiate it from the standard ZZ Gundam, the entire mobile suit features the clean and bright color scheme characteristic of the Ka signature series. High-saturation colors are used for various blue, yellow, and red parts across the body, complemented by Hajime Katoki's original marking designs printed throughout.
Armaments include the ZZ Gundam's original Double Beam Rifle, Head High Mega Cannon, Hyper Beam Saber, and the 18-Tube Missile Pod concealed within the deployable backpack. The Double Beam Rifle features articulated barrel, grip, and sensor mechanisms, along with the ability to be mounted on the side of the backpack. Furthermore, by combining it with the separately sold "METAL ROBOT Damashii (Ka signature) Full Armor Parts Set for Enhanced ZZ Gundam," collectors can recreate its ultimate form, the "Full Armor ZZ Gundam."
