When it comes to the music of Detective Conan, one singer immediately comes to mind: Mai Kuraki. She has even appeared as herself in the anime, and her long-running partnership with the franchise began with “Secret of my heart” in 2000.
On September 27, Kuraki broke her own Guinness World Records title for the most theme songs sung by the same artist for an animation series. Her latest song, “Ai de Zenbu Dakishimete Aishite,” debuted as the ending theme for the September 26 episode “The Sunset-Hued Final Performance (Opening Day).” The track brings her total number of Detective Conan theme songs to 30, earning her a new Guinness World Records certificate.
Kuraki last set the record in July 2017, when she was officially recognized for contributing 21 songs. Nine years later, she has raised the bar once again.
Since “Secret of my heart” became her first Detective Conan ending theme in 2000, Kuraki has spent 26 years performing songs for both the television anime and its theatrical films. Her record-breaking 30th collaboration arrives during the anime’s 30th-anniversary year.
After receiving her certificate, an emotional Kuraki said, “I’m genuinely thrilled. It really feels like a dream... This is something I’m incredibly proud of.”
She continued, “I don’t think this Guinness World Records title belongs to me alone. It belongs to everyone who has continued to love Detective Conan and everyone who has helped bring it to life. Even I can hardly believe that nine years have passed. I’m deeply grateful that I’ve been able to remain part of the series and continue sharing these songs with everyone. Setting this record together with all of you makes me incredibly proud.”
Looking back on her first Guinness World Records certification nine years ago, Kuraki recalled how many people had encouraged her to keep pushing the record further. “It wasn’t only my fans. So many people told me they hoped I would break the Guinness World Records title again. To receive another certification today, nine years later, makes me incredibly happy. It feels as though I’ve been able to carry everyone’s hopes from back then all the way to this moment.”
Reflecting on the Detective Conan anime’s 30th anniversary, Kuraki said, “Thirty years is truly remarkable... Being able to share our love for Detective Conan for so long and make it all the way to this point is an extraordinary achievement.”
Kuraki added that the series has given her countless treasured memories. “Thanks to everyone, I’ve built so many memories connected to Detective Conan through concerts and other events. To me, this series is like family—something that has grown alongside me throughout my journey and become an irreplaceable part of my life.” She then joked, “I don’t know whether it can keep going for another 30 years... I probably won’t be around by then,” before adding hopefully, “But I still want it to continue for as long as possible.”
To celebrate the new record, officials also announced Mai Kuraki × Detective Conan COLLABORATION BEST 30: Because You Were There, There Is Music, a compilation album featuring all 30 songs, set for release on November 11.
