Sentinel has unveiled the latest release in its new GM²I plastic model line: Ixpel, the transforming hero mecha from the classic robot shoot-'em-up "Formation Z." The kit is scheduled for release in August 2027.

The GM²I line is overseen by former Super Robot Wars producer Takanobu Terada. Dedicated to turning mecha from classic video games into plastic model kits, the series recruits acclaimed mechanical designers Kanetake Ebikawa and Takayuki Yanase to update each machine for a new generation. The first release, Ixpel, is the player-controlled mecha from the 1984 side-scrolling shooter "Formation Z." In the game, players pilot this unfinished transforming combat machine against a relentless rebel offensive.
The GM²I Ixpel plastic model kit features a modernized redesign by mechanical designer Kanetake Ebikawa. Drawing inspiration from the box art created for the game's home-console port, the updated design gives Ixpel sharper proportions and far more intricate mechanical detailing. Once assembled, the model stands approximately 15 cm tall. Blue, white, yellow, and other molded-color parts combine with color-correcting stickers to reproduce the mecha's signature color scheme. Clear green parts are used for the face and cockpit canopy, with finely sculpted mechanical details visible beneath them.

Articulation is built throughout the model, while pull-out joints at the elbows, hips, and other areas further expand its range of motion. Ixpel can strike dynamic jumping and deep-kneeling poses or wield its 105mm Beam Cannon in combat. With a handful of interchangeable parts, the kit can also convert from its Ground Form robot configuration into its Air Form fighter configuration.
