"Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission" Hits Theaters in 2027 for the Anime’s Grand Finale

Naoya Matsumoto’s manga Kaiju No. 8 officially wrapped up its five-year run in July 2025, but its two-season TV anime adaptation has also earned plenty of praise.

On October 24, the official team announced that the anime’s concluding chapter, Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission, will hit theaters in 2027. A super teaser visual and a video unveiling the artwork were also released.

The Kaiju No. 8 anime is produced by Production I.G, with Studio khara handling kaiju design and related artwork. The first TV anime season aired in 2024, followed by Season 2 in 2025.

The feature-length finale will see the Defense Force pushed to the brink by evolved kaiju, while Kaiju No. 9—having absorbed Isao Shinomiya—sets its ultimate scheme in motion. Meanwhile, Kafka Hibino resolves to fight as Kaiju No. 8, setting the stage for one last battle.

The newly revealed super teaser visual was created by Shinji Kimura, who served as art director on the TV anime. It depicts a mysterious colossal kaiju looming over a devastated cityscape, paired with the ominous tagline, “The age of humans comes to an end.” The image teases an unprecedented threat about to descend.

Masaya Fukunishi, the voice of Kafka Hibino, commented, “Through Seasons 1 and 2, we’ve shared the excitement of the Kaiju No. 8 anime with everyone. Now, the story is officially set to reach its conclusion with a theatrical film in 2027!”

He added, “Next year, I’ll turn 32—the same age as Kafka. Reaching the finale at this exact point makes it feel almost like fate...!” Fukunishi closed with a message for fans: “Right through to the very end, I’ll give everything I have to this series I love, alongside my favorite character, Kafka Hibino, and Kaiju No. 8. Please continue to support us!!”

The concluding chapter was first announced earlier this year, but few expected the series to save its final act for the big screen. An exact release date has yet to be announced, so fans will need to stay tuned for further updates.
