First launched in 2013, Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation is a team-based action game series set in the Universal Century timeline of Mobile Suit Gundam. A sequel followed in 2018.
During the official Gundam Games 40th Anniversary livestream on October 28, the next entry in the series, Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3, was officially announced. No release date has been revealed, but the game is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

The Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation series is known for its grounded battlefield style, originally focusing on the One Year War. Players take on the role of mobile suit pilots serving either the Earth Federation Forces or the Principality of Zeon, climbing into familiar machines for intense 6-on-6 team battles across a variety of combat zones. Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 later expanded from consoles to Steam, bringing its online battles to PC.

Multiplayer-focused experiences remain relatively uncommon among Gundam games. The developers also confirmed during the broadcast that, because Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 is still in service, no content or progress from the current game will carry over to the sequel. Battle Operation 3 is currently being designed for matches supporting between one and 18 players, potentially opening the door to a 9-on-9 mode.

The developers also shared an early look at the game in development, showcasing its weighty movement and more realistic presentation.

Every mobile suit will also come equipped with its own unique “SP Skill,” with different effects tailored to each machine and even more options for shaping battle strategies.

A wide range of mobile suits from the Universal Century timeline will join the roster, with more machines set to be revealed in future updates.

Each mobile suit belongs to one of three classes: General, Raid, or Support. These classes operate in a rock-paper-scissors relationship, so understanding each machine’s strengths, weaknesses, and unique traits will be essential to gaining the upper hand.

The game will not be limited to Universal Century machines. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED will also be represented at launch, while content from another two or three Gundam titles is planned for the game’s first year.
