Fukui-based dinosaur lifestyle brand Dinosaur Base is teaming up with Toho's "Godzilla" for a new line of Godzilla collaboration backpacks. Designed after the hard-shell randoseru traditionally used by Japanese elementary school students, the collection channels Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla through textured monster skin, metallic scales, and mechanical armor. Open the flap and each backpack reveals a full-size image from the monster movies. All three designs are priced at 93,500 yen each, including tax, with preorders scheduled to open on January 23, 2027.
The previously reported LACOSTE x "Godzilla" collection brought the monster franchise to clothing and tote bags. This time, the kaiju are taking over the school run. The Godzilla edition comes in matte black, with an embossed surface recreating the monster's rugged skin. Inside the flap is a massive image of the original 1954 Godzilla. The King Ghidorah version features a gold-scale motif and an interior image of the three-headed monster from the 1991 movie, while the Mechagodzilla edition sports silver mechanical armor and a photo of the original 1974 design. Each interior monster image measures 41.5 cm long, keeping your favorite kaiju in view whenever you reach for a textbook.
The front pocket is embroidered with the corresponding monster's name, while the metal hooks on the sides are engraved with artwork of each kaiju. Depending on the design, the hardware comes in black nickel, antique gold, or silver. The D-rings on the shoulder straps also feature special images that change depending on the viewing angle. Beyond the monster styling, each backpack retains the practical storage needed for everyday school life and weighs approximately 1.3 kg. The collection will make its physical debut at a Tokyo randoseru exhibition on January 30 and 31, 2027, giving young Godzilla fans the chance to carry a kaiju to class.
