Two years ago, "Kingsman" filmmaker Matthew Vaughn unveiled a particularly confusing plan for a new "Kick-Ass" reboot trilogy. After directing the original film and producing its sequel, Vaughn opted not to relaunch the franchise entirely under the "Kick-Ass" banner. Instead, he set out to build a new universe through a series of movies that appeared to have little connection to "Kick-Ass" itself. Now, the trilogy is finally moving forward.

Deadline exclusively reported Friday that the first film in the new "Kick-Ass" trilogy, "Stuntnuts: The Movie," will launch distribution sales at the American Film Market this weekend. The report also revealed that Matt Damon will make a cameo.
"Stuntnuts: The Movie" wrapped filming some time ago and is currently in post-production. The previously announced cast includes Vaughn’s "Argylle" stars Sam Rockwell and John Cena, singer Benson Boone and Chris Hemsworth, who appeared alongside Damon in the third and fourth "Thor" movies. Hemsworth and Rockwell will play heightened versions of themselves.

As its title suggests, "Stuntnuts: The Movie" is an action comedy celebrating stunt performers. The story follows two gifted stuntmen who take jobs on a massive Hollywood blockbuster in a desperate bid to save their community gym from demolition. As production continues, however, the stunts become increasingly dangerous, tensions escalate between the movie’s two stars — Hemsworth and Rockwell — and the entire set spirals out of control. Before long, saving the gym becomes the least of their problems.

"Stuntnuts: The Movie" marks the feature directorial debut of stunt coordinator Damien Walters. Reports have suggested the film will launch an action franchise centered on stunt performers, but the series is also part of the new "Kick-Ass" universe. Vaughn initially developed the project under the working title "Vram," later renamed it "The Stuntman" and eventually settled on "Stuntnuts: The Movie." Walters also directed the second installment, "Stuntnuts Does School Fight." Originally titled "School Fight," the movie was completed years ago and was initially intended to be the first entry.
"Stuntnuts: The Movie" is produced by UR•Marv , the production company co-founded by soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Vaughn. Vaughn previously said the trilogy’s third installment would be the movie actually titled "Kick-Ass," but production has apparently yet to begin, with no director or cast currently attached. Considering both earlier films underwent title changes, there is no guarantee the third movie will ultimately retain the "Kick-Ass" name.
