Scarlett Johansson, best known for playing Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently joined the cast of "The Batman: Part II." Although her character remains under wraps, the actress admitted that the role has given her existential angst as she struggles to find her way into the character.

While promoting her new film "Paper Tiger," Johansson was asked by "Entertainment Tonight" whether "The Batman: Part II" or "The Exorcist: Martyrs" pushed her further outside her comfort zone. She chose the Batman sequel.
Johansson explained that, for reasons she could not quite identify, the character had caused her a great deal of existential angst. She described the role as extremely difficult to figure out, adding that she was unsure whether the challenge came from the character itself or her current stage in life. She ultimately said she had struggled to find a way to understand the role and could reveal nothing more.
Johansson offered no details about her character or the sequel's plot. Previous speculation has linked her to Poison Ivy and Gilda Dent, but neither theory has been confirmed by the studio, leaving her place in the story a mystery.
Meanwhile, star Robert Pattinson previously said the script approaches the psychology of Bruce Wayne and Batman in a way he does not believe audiences have seen before, suggesting the sequel will dig even deeper into the character's inner world.
Production on "The Batman: Part II" has resumed in the U.K. Matt Reeves temporarily stepped away from the set to handle a family matter, with Steven Soderbergh overseeing the final stretch of principal photography. Reeves is expected to take the reins again during post-production. Despite the temporary shutdown, the film remains scheduled for release on February 18, 2028.
