X-PLUS Japan's popular "DefoReal" (デフォリアル) series, known for blending intricate realistic details with adorable deformed proportions, is back with a new release! Following their initial "Varan" figure based on Toho's kaiju film "Varan the Unbelievable," they're now launching the "DefoReal Varan Movie Poster Ver." (バラン ポスターカラーVer.)! This pre-painted figure is priced at 8,800 JPY and is slated for an August 2022 release.
"Varan the Unbelievable," released in 1958, was directed by Ishirō Honda with a screenplay by Shinichi Sekizawa, marking Toho's final black-and-white kaiju film. Varan, the monster featured in the movie, is a colossal quadrupedal kaiju resembling a flying squirrel, with membranes between its limbs and body allowing it to glide. Despite its reptilian appearance, it boasts sharp spikes and horns, revered as the "Baradagi Mountain God" by isolated villagers. Varan also made a cameo appearance in 1968's "Destroy All Monsters" (Godzilla's All-Out Attack).

The "DefoReal Varan Movie Poster Ver." pre-painted figure maintains the same dimensions as its predecessor, standing at approximately 14 cm tall (including the spikes on its head) and measuring about 17 cm long. This figure captures Varan in a semi-crouching pose, reimagined with the DefoReal line's signature adorable, oversized head proportions! This edition features the gray-green skin tone seen in the movie poster, with paintwork meticulously recreating a dry, rough texture. The spikes, extending from its head to its tail, are crafted from translucent material, adding impressive depth and detail to the overall sculpt!
