Japan's official "Mobile Suit Gundam" Gunpla flagship store, THE GUNDAM BASE, announced today the latest event-exclusive product from "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing," the "HG 1/144 Wing Gundam [Clear Color]," scheduled to be released in stores starting September 10, 2022.
The XXXG-01W Wing Gundam is a mobile suit developed by Doctor J based on the data of the Wing Gundam Zero. It was piloted by the protagonist, Heero Yuy, and deployed in "Operation Meteor" against the Earth Sphere Unified Nation (OZ). This mobile suit largely inherits the characteristics of the Wing Gundam Zero, possessing extremely high mobility and the ability to transform into a high-speed "Bird Mode." Its armaments are also not to be underestimated; its main weapon, the "Buster Rifle," boasts battleship-class firepower and powerful penetration, causing significant damage to enemy mobile suits in its beam path. Additionally, to prevent the enemy from acquiring confidential machine data, a "self-destruct device" was installed, capable of destroying the unit when necessary.
The "HG 1/144 Wing Gundam [Clear Color]" is a modified version based on the HGAC release from 2013. It faithfully recreates the sleek and cool design from the series, featuring flexible movable joints. It comes with its main weapon, the "Buster Rifle," and a shield that can store a beam saber. Furthermore, its transformation mechanism allows it to reproduce the high-speed flight "Bird Mode."
The difference from the regular version is that all white, blue, red, and yellow parts of the entire model have been replaced with clear color versions. The highly translucent armor presents a technological feel distinct from the original color scheme, allowing appreciation of the then-innovative HG inner frame design. This also makes it more convenient for special customization techniques such as lighting and glow-in-the-dark paints, offering a different style from regular Gunpla.
