To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Digimon's birth, Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America today announced the latest commemorative product, the "Digital Monster COLOR (Ver.1/Ver.2)", which returns to its origins and is scheduled for release in February 2023.
The "Digital Monster COLOR" meticulously recreates the design, size, and button layout of the original version released in 1997, simultaneously launching Ver.1 in brown and gray, and Ver.2 in white and black. However, the hardware has been significantly revamped using modern technology, upgrading the previous monochrome LCD screen to a full-color specification. This allows Digimon, previously depicted only with black outlines, to be rendered in rich colors, and even enables background image changes. Furthermore, you no longer need to replace batteries; the built-in rechargeable battery can be fully charged via a USB Type-C connection, ensuring uninterrupted playtime.
Regarding the software, "Digital Monster COLOR" Ver.1 and Ver.2 each include 18 different Digimon, and every Perfect-level Digimon can evolve into an Ultimate-level Digimon. Digimon can also fuse through connection between different versions. The training mini-games and battle animations for each version are also reproduced with the color screen. There's even a "Single Player Battle Mode" for solo players, along with convenient systems like temporarily pausing Digimon growth and saving backups, making the growth process smoother.
Additionally, by purchasing any "Digital Monster COLOR", you will receive a special bonus: a "Digimon 25th Anniversary Commemorative Shikishi Ver. DIGIMON ORIGIN" illustrated by Mr. Kenji Watanabe!
