The latest installment in the Gundam series, "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury," set to premiere on October 2nd, recently unveiled its thrilling second promotional video. Simultaneously, the theme song "Shukufuku" (The Blessing), performed by the Japanese supernova music duo YOASOBI, was also revealed. The regular and limited edition CDs featuring this song are scheduled for release on November 9, 2022.
The story of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury" is set in an era where numerous corporations have expanded into space, forming vast economic zones ―― Ad Stella (A.S.) 122. The protagonist is a girl named Suletta Mercury, who transfers from the frontier planet Mercury to the Asticassia School of Technology, operated by the Benerit Group, the leading company in the mobile suit industry. With a pure and innocent heart glowing with a crimson light, the girl will step by step enter a new world. This work will be directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi, with Ichiro Okouchi responsible for series composition and screenplay.
The Completely Production Limited Edition, priced at 4,000 JPY + tax, will include the CD itself, an original Gunpla "HG 1/144 Demi-Trainer YOASOBI Collaboration Ver." created in collaboration with BANDAI SPIRITS and YOASOBI, YOASOBI collaboration logo stickers for use with the separately sold "HG 1/144 Gundam Aerial," and the original novel "Cradle Planet" (written by Ichiro Okouchi), which serves as the source material for the song "Shukufuku."
▼ A prototype of the "HG 1/144 Demi-Trainer YOASOBI Collaboration Ver." has been revealed. Based on the standard HG 1/144 Demi-Trainer specifications, its molded colors and decorations will be changed to reflect YOASOBI's image. The shoulder armor, rear skirt armor, shield, and other areas will feature elaborate neon elements displaying the distinctive "YOASOBI" and "夜遊" (Yáyóu, meaning "night play") lettering.
▼ The YOASOBI collaboration logo stickers can be used with the protagonist's mobile suit, the "HG 1/144 Gundam Aerial," allowing various armor parts across its body to be adorned with vibrant YOASOBI imagery.
YOASOBI composer Ayase expressed immense joy at collaborating with the long-standing "Gundam" series through music, hoping that the dramatic quality of "Shukufuku" will allow viewers to enjoy the anime even more. Vocalist Ikura also stated that it is a great honor to perform the theme song for "The Witch from Mercury." "Shukufuku" is a prayer dedicated to a girl living in a lonely world, singing the feelings of the Gundam Aerial as it grows and fights alongside the protagonist, Suletta Mercury. She hopes viewers will enjoy the song in conjunction with the anime.
