LEGO fans! The most anticipated annual gift-with-purchase event, "Bricktober," is almost here again! This Toy-People unboxing report is here to bring you all the information on the 2022 Bricktober products, event locations, schedules, and more. So, let's get started right away!
Bricktober, a portmanteau of Brick + October, is one of the key events that LEGO fans eagerly anticipate every year. Around October each year, LEGO schedules four gift-with-purchase periods, releasing different promotional sets for fans to collect. And the theme for 2022 is "Adventure Rides"! It includes four adventures: "Space," "Pirate," "Fantasy," and "Dragon." So, where can you get these gifts? Here is the complete information:
During the event period from September 30 to October 30, 2022, at designated stores such as LEGO Certified Stores, Toys"R"Us, Funbox, and Ding-Mei Toys, you can receive one free promotional set with a purchase of NT$2,400 or more on LEGO City, Friends, Ninjago, Duplo, DOTS, or Disney Princess series sets. If you're a toy fan with a long shopping list, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity.
Now that we've covered the gift schedule, it's time to look at the main event: the "Adventure Rides" series models! First, let's look at the packaging. Here at the Toy-People editorial department, we were fortunate enough to receive a special purple outer box that contains all four mini-models. It's not only printed with icons representing the four adventure riders but also features the words "ADVENTURE AWAITS." The LEGO logo on the side is also a delightful sight. (The long storage box is not included with general retail purchases.)
▼ Sliding it open reveals the long storage box, illustrated with the four child protagonists.
▼ Next is the appearance of the square boxes that you can get during the event period (the long storage box mentioned above is not included). The overall design is colorful, and the pattern on the top echoes the hats worn by each little rider.
▼ Taking the pirate set as an example, upon opening, you can see the instruction manual placed flat on top, in the same format as the Four Seasons, LEGO Amusement Park, and Fairy Tale World sets we've previously reviewed.
▼ The contents include two bags of parts for the main model & base, two instruction manuals for the main model & base, and a collectible card that you can write on and color.
Even in the most ordinary daily life, you can create unique and fun experiences with just a little imagination! Each "Adventure Ride" in this series features a child protagonist sitting on an adorably designed coin-operated ride, dressed in a corresponding outfit to fly to space or sail the seas. The overall result is a masterpiece, achieving a fantastic appearance with a small number of parts! The design that allows you to turn the crank on the base to make the ride move is also a major highlight. Thanks to their uniform design, they look even more charming when displayed together after collecting all four Bricktober sets. Now, let's take a look at them one by one in order of their release!
● Space Adventure Ride ●
Gift Period: 09/30-10/06
First up is the single-seater mini spaceship. Its silhouette is carefully crafted within its approximately 13 cm length, and it even comes with several printed bricks! The flag piece is also quite delightful. The little boy is wearing the classic LEGO astronaut helmet piece but without the visor, conveying a whimsical atmosphere of a child immersed in their own world, using whatever materials are at hand.
▼ A look at the printed pieces from this spaceship.
● Pirate Adventure Ride ●
Gift Period: 10/07-10/13
The second is a mini pirate ship! In addition to recreating the skull flag and thick sails, the cannon and cabin are also well-reproduced. Multiple gold slope and tile pieces make the whole model look more luxurious! However, the mast, built with Technic parts, tends to tilt left and right due to the rocking motion, which is a minor imperfection.
▼ Absolutely love the golden rooster piece.
● Fantasy Adventure Ride ●
Gift Period: 10/14-10/20
Next up is the "Fantasy Adventure Ride," which is my personal favorite of the series. The brick-built unicorn has an eye-catching mane and tail, and its four legs are made from arch pieces commonly used in architecture—a very classic LEGO style! Besides its cute appearance, the unicorn can also display various moods using different eye pieces. Paired with the little cowboy minifigure wearing a cowboy hat and holding a lasso, it's just fantastic!
● Dragon Adventure Ride ●
Gift Period: 10/21-10/30
Finally, we have the dragon breathing fierce flames from its nostrils, paired with a little knight holding a Black Falcons shield! The dragon's head sculpt is excellent, using gold slope pieces and flipper pieces to represent its spikes and fins. The wings and tail also have simple articulation. Personally, I think the coolest part is using a piece often found on the front of race cars to represent the four tucked-in legs—so clever!
▼ The format for each set is to first build the main ride model and then attach it to the elaborate base. Since the bases all have the same structure, why not try building one with the instructions and then building the rest from memory to increase the challenge and fun of assembly!
▼ Here's a look at the four minifigures in this series. They use the newer posable short leg pieces for the lower body, allowing the children to be posed in a sitting position on the rides. If standard short legs were used, they could only be displayed standing.
▼ It's worth noting that in addition to the hats shown above, each box also includes two hairpiece or bandana parts, giving you a bit more freedom in how you play and display them.
▼ Mini-models with such a high degree of design completion look adorable no matter how you photograph them! They also don't take up much space when displayed. Toy fans who love collecting special promotional gifts should absolutely not miss out on these 2022 Bricktober sets!
▼ Swapping the eye pieces really creates the visual effect of a change in emotion!
▼ The rainbow tail is so cute.
▼ On the left side of the base is a coin box for collecting coins, and you get a lot of printed five-dollar coin pieces at once!
And that's a wrap for our look at the "2022 LEGO Bricktober" collection! It's hard to resist these compact, exquisite models equipped with playable mechanisms. Which promotional gift is your favorite? Feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
