Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of "Macross", recently officially announced a brand new HG 1/100 scale model kit series featuring fighter jets from the "Macross" series. The first product will be the renowned machine "YF-19 Excalibur", which secured first place in the "All Macross Poll", scheduled for release in January 2023.

The variable fighter YF-19, commonly known as "Excalibur", is a machine developed by Shinsei Industry for the New U.N. Spacy's "Project Super Nova". It was piloted by the protagonist Isamu Dyson in "Macross Plus". The YF-19 boasts innovative technologies such as the pinpoint barrier system and active stealth radar. Equipped with a Fold Booster, it can perform Fold Jumps, and its forward-swept wing design provides exceptionally high maneuverability. However, early production YF-19s suffered from poor operability, making it difficult for test pilots to withstand the physical strain, leading to multiple casualties. Only a select few top pilots were capable of mastering it.

The "HG 1/100 YF-19 Excalibur" adopts a newly designed replacement parts system to faithfully reproduce its distinctive "three-stage transformation mechanism". By replacing certain parts, the transformation mechanism is greatly simplified, making it easier to handle without concern for damaging components. Simultaneously, the machine's design is unconstrained by the transformation mechanism, allowing all three forms—FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID—to be立体化 (rendered in 3D) with their most striking appearances, true to the original design. It also features flexible movable joints; the torso utilizes a four-axis ball joint design to significantly enhance its forward and backward tilting range, while the legs incorporate a pull-out structure and multiple movable axes to articulate the transformation mechanism.

The transparent cockpit canopy uses a special polarized molding color, reflecting different hues depending on the viewing angle. The overall armor also features rich details such as abundant panel lines. However, the part separation and color separation are relatively simplified, and most red and black lines will need to be recreated using the included color-correcting stickers. Accessories include a GUNPOD, shield, landing gear, replacement parts for each form, and effect parts to recreate the classic "Shield Punch" move. Furthermore, Bandai will simultaneously release "HG 1/100 YF-19 Excalibur Water Decals" (sold separately), which are printed with numerous aircraft markings.
