Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division's previously registered Gunpla new trademark 'MGSD' has finally been officially announced today. The first product from this latest SD Gundam brand, which combines MG series technology, will be the popular protagonist mobile suit "Freedom Gundam" from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED", scheduled for release in January 2023.
As the series name suggests, 'MGSD' incorporates the technology cultivated by Gunpla's 'MASTER GRADE' into the SD Gundam specifications. Whether it's the number of parts, the separation of parts, or color separation techniques, they are all comparable to MG Gunpla standards. This creates the highest level of articulation, mechanisms, and high-density detailed sculpting in SD Gundam product history, filling a long-standing gap for a new generation of high-end SD Gundam Gunpla products.
Upon completion, the 'MGSD Freedom Gundam' kit stands approximately 115mm tall, featuring a fully articulated internal frame. It utilizes two shades to sculpt high-density mechanical structures. The head achieves a multi-layered structure by combining internal parts with lens-like sculpting and yellow clear parts. Furthermore, two new technologies have been introduced: "REFLECTION CUT" and "REAL METALLIC GLOSSINJECTION". The former processes clear parts into precise shapes that enhance light reflection efficiency, while the latter uses materials that significantly boost metallic luster, replacing the previous GLOSSINJECTION technology.
Once the outer armor is fully attached, one can appreciate the high-density, multi-layered detailed sculpting of the entire mobile suit, a stark contrast to previous products often criticized for visible hollow parts and requiring paint touch-ups. Even more astonishing is the incredible articulation design, previously unseen in "SD Gundam" Gunpla products. The neck, shoulders, torso, and legs all incorporate multi-axis articulation, pull-out joints, extendable mechanisms, and armor interlocking features developed in the MG series. This allows the short-limbed SD proportion mobile suit to achieve cool kneeling poses and various agile combat stances. The base of the back wings and each individual wing also feature extendable mechanisms, preventing parts interference and allowing for the powerful "Full Burst Mode" pose!
Furthermore, the second product in the 'MGSD' line is also currently being planned, with detailed information to be announced at a later date.
