BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has announced the latest product from the "HG (High Grade)" series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, known for its diverse range of mobile suits, "HG 1/144 Begil-Pende" from "Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury," scheduled for release on January 14, 2023.
The Begil-Pende is a successor unit to the Beguir-Beu, developed by the Grassley Defense Systems. In addition to its armaments, which include a large beam rifle, a cross-shaped shield, and beam sabers hidden within the shield, its slender legs are highly agile, allowing it to quickly restrain enemy mobile suits with its clawed feet. This unit also incorporates an anti-GUND system designed to counter GUND-type mobile suits. When the mechanisms in its backpack and shield are activated, it can deploy a wide-range anti-GUND field.
The "HG 1/144 Begil-Pende" faithfully recreates its anime appearance with multi-color molded parts and excellent part separation. The purple glowing areas on the head, shoulders, and thighs are formed by stickers combined with clear overlay parts, and it features flexible articulation. The large beam rifle's grip is movable, and the beam saber hilts can be stored within the shield. The cross-shaped shield utilizes a four-way sliding deployment mechanism to replicate the anti-GUND system's activation state. The two anti-GUND system units on the left and right of the backpack are independently movable and can also reproduce their deployed state during activation.
The latest prototype samples show that the entire kit is composed of deep purple, red, clear, and purplish-gray molded colors, largely reproducing the design's appearance even unpainted. However, the green glowing parts of the backpack and shield's GUND anti-GUND system when deployed are not separately molded and will require stickers for color correction or self-painting. Additionally, the claw parts of the feet feature movable mechanisms that can retract inward to recreate gripping actions. Accessories include a shape-adjustable metal wire, which can be connected to the shield to recreate its deployed projectile stance.
