American toy manufacturer SUPER7's "Super Shogun" toy series recently announced its latest Toho kaiju-themed product, the "Toho Super Shogun Mechagodzilla"! Pre-orders are now open on the SUPER7 official website, with an estimated shipping date in Summer 2023.
Before introducing SUPER7's Super Shogun collection series, we must first talk about Shogun Warriors. Shogun Warriors was a large toy series distributed by Mattel in the late 1970s, featuring characters from Japanese anime and tokusatsu works. It included not only giant robots from works like Chodenji Robo Combattler V, Mazinger Z, Grendizer, Daimos, etc., but also kaiju-themed Godzilla, with the Shogun Godzilla released in 1977. The Super Shogun series is inspired by this, crafted with modern technology while infused with a retro sensibility.
This approximately 50.8 cm tall "Toho Super Shogun Mechagodzilla" is a toy SUPER7 founder Brian Flynn dreamed of owning since childhood. He always wanted a character large enough to battle his Shogun Godzilla, and 45 years later, Brian finally produced this Mechagodzilla himself. In addition to its strongly retro-flavored design, it features six fingertip missiles, articulated mechanical arms, and the classic element of rollers on the soles of its feet. The abdominal area can also be adorned with stickers to display different looks – truly a very cool toy!
