The Origin of the Series! VOLKS 'The Five Star Stories' IMS 1/100 ENGAGE SR 1 Assembly Model

Japan's VOLKS company, which has released numerous robot products from 'The Five Star Stories', is scheduled to release a 1/100 assembly model of the MH unit from the series, the 'ENGAGE SR 1' (エンゲージ SR 1), in late December 2022.

'The Five Star Stories' (ファイブスター物語, The Five Star Stories) is a science fiction manga series created by Japan's highly renowned 'mecha design master' Mamoru Nagano. It began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's 'Newtype' in 1986 and was adapted into an anime in 1989. Due to the series' vast worldview, which touches upon many aspects of people, events, and objects, it is still being serialized to this day, spanning over 30 years. The fantastical robots, 'Mortar Headd' (MH), designed by Mamoru Nagano in the story, possess highly distinctive designs, making it a work that many robot enthusiasts still enjoy studying and discussing.

The opening theme song of 'The Five Star Stories' anime:

The Engage SR 1 (エンゲージ SR 1) MH unit is an MH owned by the Chorus (コーラス) royal family, manufactured by Dr. Kupp, and is classified as a light MH. It serves as the base model for many other types, with several subsequent MHs based on it, all belonging to the Engage series. The Engage is renowned as the 'most beautiful MH in the star cluster'.

This Engage SR 1, released by VOLKS, is produced in 1/100 scale, stands approximately 23.6 cm tall, and features a streamlined appearance true to the original work. The eyeball parts are specially represented by small individual pieces, and it comes with five types of interchangeable hand parts, allowing for a wide variety of weapon-holding or posing options. Furthermore, similar to the previously released Ogre, significant effort has been put into the design of the lower legs, using simple designs to express the unique mechanisms and various opening forms.
