To commemorate the 55th anniversary of the broadcast of Tsuburaya Productions' Japanese Ultraman series special effects drama "Ultraman Seven," BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Division, TAMASHII NATIONS, is re-releasing the popular alloy toy series "Chogokin Damashii" with a renewed version of the classic kaiju King Joe as the "GX-37R King Joe 55th Anniversary Ver.", scheduled for release in February 2023.
The classic rival kaiju from "Ultraman Seven," the "Space Robot King Joe," is a super robot built by the Pedan Seijin. Standing 55 meters tall and weighing 48,000 tons, it is constructed from ultra-high-strength Pedanium cosmic alloy and can generate a full-body protective barrier, rendering Seven's attacks almost ineffective and putting him in a tough battle. In terms of offense, it possesses powerful combat abilities and can fire potent destructive beams. The entire unit can also separate into four UFOs, each capable of flight and underwater travel. At the time, its only notable weakness was its inability to stand up once knocked down, but even that was not enough to destroy King Joe. Ultimately, it was only with the "Raidon R30 Bomb," developed with the assistance of Pedan Seijin scientist Dr. Dorothy, that this super robot was finally defeated.
Compared to the initial release in 2007, the "GX-37R King Joe 55th Anniversary Ver." features no significant improvements in its overall structural design or the molds used for its parts. It still utilizes numerous alloy components and faithfully recreates the transformation and combination mechanism of the four UFOs, and includes a Pedan Seijin flying saucer that can be stored in the display base. The changes in this new version lie in the refreshed overall color scheme, painting King Joe in a metallic champagne gold hue, distinct from the original's yellowish brassy tone. Furthermore, the gold-lettered black nameplate on the display base has been updated from the original 40th-anniversary commemoration to the 55th anniversary.
