T-ARTS, the popular gashapon brand under the renowned Japanese toy company TakaraTomy, is releasing its latest "Planet of the Apes Articulated Head Collection" gashapon, themed after 20th Century Fox's classic sci-fi film "Planet of the Apes." There are four types in total, each priced at a reference 400 JPY, and scheduled to be released in November 2022.
The classic 1968 American sci-fi film "Planet of the Apes," directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, was adapted from the novel "La Planète des singes" by French author Pierre Boulle. The film is part of a five-part series. It tells the story of astronaut Taylor (played by Charlton Heston) who, during a space exploration, accidentally crashes on a planet ruled by apes. The apes regard humans as savage animals; local humans cannot speak, are bred, hunted, or used for anatomical research... metaphorically reflecting contemporary American racial discrimination and social class systems.
The "T-ARTS Planet of the Apes Articulated Head Collection" gashapon recreates the actors' special ape makeup from the film in gashapon form. It includes four types: the scientist couple CORNELIUS and ZIRA, the scholar VIRGIL, and General ALDO. Each figure measures approximately 5 cm and features a fun articulation that allows the mouth to be manually opened, enabling two expressions: open-mouthed and closed-mouthed.
